Almost a hundred years ago a
talented wood craftsman Micheal Sequeira ( aka Mamoosha ) carved a wooden
crucifix for the first time , he did this in order to save his parish church
from the compulsion of borrowing a crucifix for Lenten service from the nearby
Cathedral at Papdy Vasai
Today the Sequeiras have literally emblazoned their names across the world , The breathtaking artistry of their wood work can be seen in churches all over Mumbai and even in the USA , Canada , Spain , ,Malayasia and Papua New Guinea , A six foot statue of Jesus Christ on the cross is their prized Exhibit at the VATICAN , A gift to the Pope John Paul II during his visit to Vasai in 1986
Like the master craftsman during the Renaissance , The Bouquer of Consummate skills has been handed down from Father to Son , From Micheal to his son Reynold , Rocque , Boniface and Eugene
Their Spectacular work won for the Museum , The UNESCO asia pacific Heritage Award 2005 for cultural heritage conservation
The main Hall of BMC , Along with Main Altars all over Bombay have Gilding by Sequeiras
But it is a dying Art because of skyrocketing GOLD prices
The Sequeira Family have indeed done Vasai and Our East Indian Community Proud
