Charles II Marries Catherine Braganza

The famous marriage treaty between the king of Great Britain Charles II and the Infanta of Portugal D Catherina De Braganza is ratified on 28th August 1661

Catherine Of Braganza arrived at Portsmouth on the evening of 13–14 May 1662, but was not visited there by Charles until 20 May. The following day the couple were married at Portsmouth in two ceremonies – a Catholic one conducted in secret, followed by a public Anglican service.

























Under the marriage treaty Portugal hands over to the British Islands Of Bombaim ( Bombay ) , The British will formerly take charge 10 Years later

The island of Bombay which was a Portuguese possession became a part of the dowry of the Portuguese princess Infanta Catherine of Braganza on her marriage to Charles II of England under the Anglo Portuguese treaty of June 1661. In 1668 King Charles transferred it to the East India Company for a loan of pounds Sterling 50,000 at 6% interest and with a rental of pounds Sterling 10 per annum.
